Brandon Woodruff Throwing Off Mound Thursday

Brandon Woodruff

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff (ankle) is throwing off a mound on Thursday for the first time since he injured his ankle 13 days ago. Woodruff might not be able to return from the injured list when he’s eligible on June 12, but he might not be far off after that. The 29-year-old right-hander sprained his right ankle at the end of May and will begin ramping up his throwing program. It remains to be seen if he’ll need a minor league rehab assignment. Woodruff hasn’t been nearly as good as he was last year, posting a 4.74 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 43 2/3 innings and nine starts, but his FIP of 3.82 is encouraging, and he’s fanned 53 while walking only 13. Jason Alexander should get another start in the rotation while Woodruff works his way back.
