Pittsburgh is known for Heinz Ketchup. Invented there by H.J. Heinz in the Steel City in 1876, Heinz’s product was invented to disguise. To disguise some of the brutal foods people were eating during those times, or so that’s how the story is told.
The condiment was once used for medicinal purposes, as a way to cure indigestion. Overall, it’s a fascinating story of how food has been developed throughout history.
What I’m sure Heinz didn’t envision though is just how popular and powerful his brand would become, one day becoming synonymous with the legendary NFL franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They would play big games at Heinz Field, before the name was ultimately removed prior to the start of this season. The iconic name will continue to be spoken by fans everywhere, but the removal is somewhat hilarious.
Everyone knew that longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was a washed up player by the end of last season, meaning that the Steelers most likely kept the Heinz name as a way to help cure the indigestion of Steelers fans all season long, not to mention masking the true potential of the team.
Regardless, ketchup is an elite condiment, just ask Patrick Mahomes. We are proposing that the Steelers bring it back, or at least give out a free bottle to the fans that show up at the stadium that shall not be named so they can deal with watching quarterback Mitch Trubisky going forward.
The Steelers through the betting lens
If you only looked at half of the Steelers team, you’d come away with one of two conclusions. Either they are Super Bowl contenders or in the running for the number one pick. That sets us up for a fascinating season from the black and gold.
The saying goes, “defense wins championships,” but can they really say that after taking one look at the Steeler offense?
There will probably be weeks that the defense scores more points than their teammates on the other side of the ball, which would really be a fun storyline. But you know what’s even more fun?
What if Trubisky is better than Roethlisberger? It’s really not that far fetched, considering how awful Big Ben was. Trubisky can move around at the very least. Then factor in star running back Najee Harris and a good receiving room headlined by Diontae Johnson, well now you have a team. Let’s not forget that Trubisky has taken his team to the playoffs once before.
There’s a good chance he won’t this year, but it’s not out of the question either. DraftKings prices it at +350 in case you’re curious.
For now, the best course of action is to ignore this offense and focus on defense. As an example, T.J. Watt is listed at +650 on FanDuel to lead the league in sacks. Considering he is a one man wrecking crew, that’s a worthwhile throw of the dart.
BetBasics Best Bet
I don’t know what to make of the 2022 Steelers considering just how confusing they were last year. They were a team that had no business making the playoffs, but managed to get in anyway. Head coach Mike Tomlin hasn’t had a losing season in 15 years. Does that really start here? I doubt it.
Therefore, FanDuel is the place to be for our over 7.5 wins bet at -110. Whether it makes sense or not is irrelevant. You just know that this team doesn’t go away and they’ll be in it all the way at the end. Somehow, someway, Tomlin will find nine wins, just to keep the streak alive.
