Carlos Carrasco Exits With An Injury On Wednesday

The hits just keep on coming for a battered pitching staff. The New York Mets trip to Houston wasn’t a successful one and it’s not only because they didn’t register a win. After getting swept by the Astros in a short two game series that didn’t last longer than 24 hours, the Mets also lost starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco, who left the start with back tightness.

His velocity was notably down from previous starts as the Astros teed off on Carrasco, scoring four runs in the first inning. Manager Buck Showalter removed Carrasco in the third inning after 2 1/3, giving up four hits, two walks, five earned runs and two strikeouts in a 5-3 Mets loss.

It’s an obvious concern for a Mets rotation that seemingly received good news following pitcher Max Scherzer’s successful rehab start on Tuesday night, with a potential return slated for Sunday. It’s a team that is still waiting for ace Jacob deGrom to return, and is having their depth greatly tested relatively early in the season.
