Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu (elbow) underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Saturday. It was a revision UCL reconstruction with a flexor tendon repair. The 35-year-old underwent the second Tommy John surgery of his career and will miss the rest of the 2022 season. The typical recovery timeline is 12-to-18 months, meaning he won’t be able to return until at least the second half of the 2023 season. Ryu finishes the 2022 season with a 5.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 16 strikeouts, and four walks across 27 innings. The southpaw will look to make a full recovery and return at some point during the 2023 season.
