Stop hitting the snooze button on the 2022 Colts

Matt Ryan

There is nothing better than a good night’s sleep, if that’s even possible. Typically, you either sleep too much or too little, rarely in between. It doesn’t matter how great the temperature is, the mattress, pillow, blankets, or anything else, you either end up disappointed or pleasantly surprised.

I say that because our 2022 Kickoff series now heads to Naptown, USA. That’s right. Naptown.

Naptown was a phrase that was coined in the 1920s by African Americans in the jazz corner of the music world. It was meant to portray Indianapolis as a sleepy city, which still continues to this day.

In our case, that’s fitting considering potentially the best sleeper team in the NFL resides there. The Indianapolis Colts

Is Indy’s quarterback search finally over?

Well, for at least the next few years anyway. The Colts were blindsided when former quarterback suddenly retired back in 2019, which proved to be a culmination of their own incompetence when it came to protecting the young star.

Years of ignoring offensive line troubles finally came back to get them, just as they were on the rise. In turn, Luck left the Colts with a roster that had practically everything, except a quarterback as talented as he was.

So Jacoby Brissett entered in as a replacement, but failed. Then the team saw an opportunity to reunited their head coach Frank Reich with an old friend, and jumped at it. Suddenly the Eagles’ Carson Wentz experiment was over, but the former number two pick was in a great position to regain his mojo.

It was a move as desperate as the famous Indiana “Desperation Pie,” but a move that had to be made regardless. In the end, the 2021 season all came crumbling down with a horrific loss to the Jaguars in Week 18. The Wentz experiment in Indianapolis, was over too.

Falcon flies north for the fall/winter?

How could the Colts possibly solve the quarterback problem, while still having a talented roster? Well, just be in the right place at the right time. As the Falcons sank further and further into the deep dark abyss of the NFL, the Colts came calling with an opportunity.

Suddenly, quarterback Matt Ryan was leaving the only team he’s ever known, for Reich and the Colts. To this day, I still don’t know how there aren’t more people talking about it.

Ryan is easily the best quarterback they’ve had since Luck, with a fantastic offensive line, running back, receiver, and defense around him. It’s that very reason why I believe he could be a sneaky MVP candidate at +5000 on both Caesar’s and Pointsbet

The former Falcon of course has already captured an NFL MVP once before, which only helps him in this case. MVP is notoriously a narrative award, and what is better than, “Once-fading Matt Ryan rejuvenates career in Indianapolis to win second MVP award.”

Wow, that’s powerful.

Most importantly, it’s possible. The Falcons haven’t been known for their competitiveness since the 28-3 debacle, so all we need to make sure of is that Ryan took some great showers to rid himself of the bad juju in Atlanta.

The Colts through the betting lens

This is a fun team to potentially back all season long. They play in a weak division and should probably run away with it. With six games against the weaker competition, expect them to sail over the 9.5 win total set at FanDuel for -160. Yeah it’s a little rich for my blood too, but definitely worth it.

Running back Jonathan Taylor should continue his assault on defenses around the league, but much like the win total, +450 (FanDuel) to lead the league in rushing yards is also too much for me. Too many things can go wrong to ruin that one.

Perhaps my favorite bet would be for Reich to win Coach of the Year at +2000 on DraftKings. Sure, there are other great candidates, but Reich’s team has Super Bowl aspirations while also somehow being underrated at the same time. If you look at some of the odds lists out there, how could Doug Pederson, Dan Campbell, and Brian Daboll seriously be listed above him? This is a great deal.

BetBasics Best Bet

The best part of this bet is just how much fun it will be to root for. In reality, that’s what we are here for anyway. A good time.

Head over to FanDuel or Caesar’s for this beauty. +2500. Colts to win the Super Bowl. Now that’s a winner right there. Maybe.

When it comes to these types of bets, we want value. I already told you the Colts are going to win the AFC South, which you can get at -130 on DraftKings. So we are basically getting a guaranteed playoff team at a price that will be much lower in January. Now folks, that is smart business. While the AFC West garners all the attention fighting to the death out there, the Colts can coast through the season and be ready for when the games really matter. They have the talent to get there and the quarterback that has finally gotten out of purgatory. Whether it happens or not, there’s no denying that’s a great bet on what can potentially be a very good team. Now it’s just time everyone wakes up from their nap to realize it.

Hello there, I’m Nick Brinkerhoff, a New Jersey native with enough sarcasm and attitude to show I’m not from New York. Despite being Jersey born and bred, I’m a diehard New York sports fan (Jets, Nets, Rangers, Mets) who has seen plenty of losing, but my sports betting ability will hopefully continue to balance those scales. I have season tickets to the Jets but believe it to be more character building than bad asset management. Althoug
