NFL Mock Draft II: QBs Rule Day 1 – Again

Two weeks from today could very well decide the fortune and future of football players and NFL franchises when the NFL Draft begins. Let’s not waste time. Here’s our second mock draft.

Team, Player, Position, College

  1. Carolina Panthers from Chicago Bears – CJ Stroud, QB, Ohio State – New coach Frank Reich is comfortable with big pocket passers. Here ya go.
  2. Houston Texans – Bryce Young, QB, Alabama – We’ll take that microprocessor of a brain and remarkable anticipation and placement.
    3. Raiders from Cardinals – Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida – Leave it to the Raiders t shake up the draft.
    4. Indianapolis Colts – Will Levis, QB, Kentucky – New coach Shane Steichen has worked with gunslingers Phillip Rivers and Justin Herbert. Levis is six-shooter.
    5. Seattle Seahawks from Denver Broncos – Will Anderson, Edge, Alabama – The closest we’ve seen to an LT-like player in college.
    6. Detroit Lions from Los Angeles Rams – Jalen Carter, DL, Georgia – This Lions defense is starting to get scary.
    7. Arizona Cardinals from Raiders – Tyree Wilson, Edge, Texas Tech – Wilson knows one gear, overdrive. He will help this pathetically bad pass rush.
    8. Atlanta Falcons – Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois – It came down to the best CB prospect or the second wave of edge rushers. Falcons need both.
    9. Chicago Bears from Carolina Panthers – Peter Skoronski, OG/T, Northwestern – The Bears plan to build around Justin Fields gets a foundational piece.
    10. Philadelphia Eagles from New Orleans Saints – Nolan Smith, OLB, Georgia – The Eagles and 49ers are charter members of the deep, pass-rushing defensive lines.
    11. Tennessee Titans – Jaxson Smith-Njiba, WR, Ohio State – Last season they drafted a big physical WR in Treylon Burks; now they get the deep threat.
    12. Houston Texans from Cleveland Browns – Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College – A perfect partner for Bryce Young. Flowers is our favorite skill player in this draft.
    13. New York Jets – Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia – My, that’s a big welcome mat for Aaron Rodgers.
    14. New England Patriots – Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon – Thought about Bama S Brian Branch because of the Belichick-Saban Bromance but when one of the two best corners falls to you…
    15. Green Bay Packers – Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah – Nothing a young QB Loves more than a big, sure-handed TE for those quick, safe throws.
    16. Washington Commanders – Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois – Since you can’t draft a new owner…get a lockdown cornerback
    17. Pittsburgh Steelers – Paris Campbell, OT, Ohio State – Steelers found their QB, Kenny Pickett, in last year’s draft; better protect him.
  3. Detroit Lions – Lukas Van Ness, Edge, Iowa – Did we mention the Lions defense is getting scary? Make that terrifying.
    19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Myles Murphy, Edge, Clemson – Devin White isn’t being shopped but Shaq Barrett is 30 and Lavonte David is 33.
    20. Seattle Seahawks – Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh – Another defense that improves dramatically with these two picks. WR in the second round?
Round 1 Pick 21 – Choice Forfeited (Miami Dolphins)
  4. Los Angeles Chargers – Quentin Johnson, WR, TCU – Can’t have enough quality WRs when you have the best deep ball thrower in the league.
    22. Baltimore Ravens – Joey Porter, Jr., CB, Penn State – The addressed WR with the Odell Beckham Jr. signing. Porter Jr. gets to practice against him.
    23. Minnesota Vikings – Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee – Time to begin for life after Kirk cousins, which many Vikings fans have been yearning for.
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars – Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson – The Jaguars need to get more pocket pressure. Bresee can do that from a down stance.
    25. New York Giants – Jordan Addison, WR, USC – The league’s weakest receiving corps gets a turbo boost.
    26. Dallas Cowboys – Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee – Cowboys need a TE and maybe another WR, but this is another case of Dallas lucking out; especially with Tryon Smith’s health
    27. Buffalo Bills – Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas – Buffalo finally gets the three-down back it has lacked. QB Josh Allen takes less hits. Win, win.
    28. Cincinnati Bengals – Michael Meyer, TE, Notre Dame – QB Joe Burrow is a master at working the field. Now he can work the middle of that field even better.
    29. New Orleans Saints from San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos – Brian Branch, S, Alabama – Saints need a WR, OT and Safety. They get the best S in this draft.
    30. Philadelphia Eagles – O’Cyrus Torrance, OG, Florida – Unfair! Eagles lost Isaac Seumalo in free agency and might improve with this plug and play road grader.
    31. Kansas City Chiefs – Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan – Almost went with Will McDonald IV. Chris Jones was unstoppable in the playoffs. DL depth is the new orange in the NFL.
