Bobby Witt Jr. is living up to the hype
The hype monster can be detrimental to young players trying to prove themselves in the league. Expectations of grandeur, increased pressure, and the weight of a fanbase on your shoulders, being appointed as the savior can break some otherwise incredibly talented baseball players.
Not Kansas City Royals third baseman Bobby Witt Jr.
A former top prospect, Witt lived up to the billing. He secured a 20-20 season when he hit 20 homers and stole 30 bags, an impressive feat in today’s league. The bat to ball skills are there, the contact has followed, and his 100th percentile sprint speed only adds to the fear he puts in pitchers.
“I’m guessing it might be the last one you see,” started former Royals manager Mike Matheny. “Because it’ll be 30s after this.”
Everyone in the building expects the bat to continue to develop, but the defense will need to follow suit. He was really, really bad at the hot corner, but Kansas City fans (rightfully) haven’t given up hope. He’s shown the ability to improve his game over the course of the season and has both the instincts and athleticism for the position.
The hype may be scary, but Witt has already shown us he can battle his way through it to make an impact. What’s next for the star?
