Mad Max Scherzer
Whether you are a proud analytics nerd, a baseball historian, or a casual baseball fan, you know of Max Scherzer. He's proudly produced one of the greatest decades of pitching performance of all time, and has continued that dominance into his late 30s. He's struck out a million batters and holds two million more records, but it may not be what he's known for.
The dude is absolutely crazy.
Scherzer is nicknamed "Mad Max" for a reason. From the Heterochromia Iridis that helps him sport two different eye colors to his fidgety, intense, borderline psychotic demeanor on the mound, it is hard not to see why. The stories back it up.
Scherzer has pitched mere hours after breaking his nose. He helped the Nationals win a World Series while injured so badly he could not lift his arm past his nick enough to dress himself. He's barked at former managers not to touch him during his starts and has been thrown out of games in which he was not pitching.
And seemingly no matter what, he returns to his post every five days, ready to entertain and dismantle. That's the Mad Max way.
