Derrick Rose is Blooming Again in the Garden
You know the Derrick Rose story. First Overall Pick. Most Valuable Player. Then the injuries that rendered him a shell of his former self.
Or so we thought.
Rose's revival didn't come in his first visit to the Garden. His first time as New York Knick, he was a victim of Phil Jackson's regime. He was then a Cavalier, then a Timberwolf, then a Piston. His second trade to New York landed him a third try with head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Traded to the Knicks in the beginning of their 2021 season, Rose provided a spark to a young Knicks team. He played more minutes than anyone would have anticipated and was the steady hand on a team who's starting point guard, Kemba Walker, was a constant source of frustration. His leadership was invaluable to the development of young players like Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett.
Now, if you ask him, he'll say he's the same Rose that dominated the league a decade ago. There is no vintage Rose. Just a Rose flourishing in a not-so-new garden.
