Nobody Wanted Keegan Murray
Part of what makes sports so great is the stories they give us. We may not be the freak athletes with the hand of God talents and the lucky breaks to make it all work, but we see these stars on the biggest stage and attribute their tribulations to our own lives. Stories of inspiration, perseverance, and hard work.
Keegan Murray is one of the NBA's newest adversity stories. The Sacramento Kings youngster was taken fourth overall in his class, higher than most expert projected him. It's a lot further than anyone thought he'd be after graduating high school.
Murray had a lone offer out of high school, Western Illinois. After a coaching change and roster turnover, it was deemed a lost opportunity. Instead, Murray went on to play at a JUCO, attempting to catch the attention of even a single big school on his way to the NBA.
That he did.
He received an offer, again his only one, from Iowa. He committed soon after and witnessed a match made in college basketball heaven. Murray dominated the Big Ten and played his way to the top tier of draft boards.
Murray is the name and making doubters silly is the game. He's only getting started.
