Antonio Gibson Works With Backups in Preseason Opener

Antonio Gibson

It appears that the Washington Commanders backfield no longer belongs to Antonio Gibson. The 24-year-old running back came into the league with plenty of promise, but he has failed to remain consistent in keeping the trust of his coaching staff.

With rookie running back Brian Robinson now in the fold, Gibson found himself on the outside looking in during Saturday’s preseason opening loss to the Carolina Panthers. Ball security remained an issue for Gibson, logging four carries resulting in two yards, along with one reception for two yards and a fumble.

Robinson promptly took over, which will give fantasy managers plenty of anxiety around drafting Gibson this season. Prop bettors will be concerned as well with an uncertain platoon potentially brewing, with the pass catching J.D. McKissic still looming as well. Until proven otherwise, you may want to steer clear of this backfield.
