Contract Talks With Kevin Porter Jr. May Be Coming

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young drives with the ball

Houston Rockets guard/forward Kevin Porter Jr. is expected to enter contract discussions with the team. The 22-year-old can agree to a rookie-scale extension as soon as July 1. But if an agreement isn’t reached, he will likely be headed for restricted free agency by the summer of 2023. After starting his career in Cleveland, Porter has played his last two seasons in Houston. He averaged 15.6 points, 6.2 assists, 4.4 boards, and 1.1 steals while shooting 37.5% from deep in 2021-22 throughout 61 games, so without a doubt, he’s a proven fantasy producer. His versatility also gives him multi-positional eligibility in most formats. However, he’s had conduct issues since entering the league back in 2019, so he may continue to be a nuisance for any organization moving ahead, which could cost him a few games here or there due to suspension.
