Dane Jackson

Dane Jackson avoids major injury

There’s no clever quip to be had. Cornerback Dane Jackson’s injury on Monday Night Football was a humbling reminder of how quickly things can change, especially on the football field.

Jackson’s head and neck snapped back after a collision with linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. His pain was obvious. His status was not. After a long game stoppage, Jackson was loaded onto an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital.

The Buffalo Bills week was made not by their victory over the Tennessee Titans, but by Jackson’s clearance from Erie County Medical Center. He walked out of the hospital on his own Tuesday morning.

Few words can summarize the collective exhale of the football world upon hearing the good news. As head coach Sean McDermott noted, there are distinct moments when things become “real.” Last night, sadly, was one of them.

“You go from being a coach to just being a human,” he said.

Buffalo will play again on Sunday in Miami. Rookies Kaiir Elam and Christian Benford will be tasked with containing a wide receiver duo coming off of a history week. With an over set at 53.5, expect to see some fireworks.

Regardless, Buffalo’s focus will be on their injured teammate. Tests revealed that he did not suffer a major neck or spinal cord injury. The team has not yet provided additional updates, only that he is under further evaluation. Hopefully, Jackson can return to the gridiron and help the Bills compete deep into the playoffs.
