Hunter Strickland Nails Down His Second Save On Monday

Hunter Strickland

Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday to earn his second save of the year. He retired each of the three batters he faced, striking out one of them. The 33-year-old veteran has had a shaky year out of the pen, pitching to a 5.73 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP over 22 innings. The Reds now have four active relievers with at least two saves. Tony Santillan leads the team with four saves, but he’s blown each of his last two save chances, leading to an ugly 5.49 ERA and 1.78 WHIP on the year. There aren’t any must-roster Reds relievers at this point. However, if you want to gamble on someone, Alexis Diaz would be your best bet. He saved Sunday’s game and also pitched on Saturday so he was unavailable Monday. He’s the only member of the Reds’ current committee with a sub-5.00 ERA as he has a 2.48 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP on the year.
