Isaiah Spiller Given Chance To Earn Backup Role

Most running backs taken on the draft’s third day take a little while to carve out a role in the offense. Not Isaiah Spiller.

The Los Angeles Chargers rookie back has quickly transitioned from Texas A&M star to professional contributor. Thus far in camp, he has taken a lot of second-team and third-team reps, signifying that he’s already impressed the coaching staff. If this trend continues, he could knock Joshua Kelley out of his spot by Week 1.

Should he do that, he’ll be able to relieve Austin Ekeler and potentially see extra touches in the red zone. He may not cash in on DraftKings‘ +4000 odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year, but he may be in position to hurt Ekeler’s rushing touchdown line of 8.5. With -115 odds to fall under that mark, Spiller’s success can add to your bankroll.
