It’s Trey Lance Time In San Francisco

The sun has finally set on the Jimmy Garoppolo era in San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch met with their incumbent starter on Tuesday to say out loud what they’ve known for a year now.

“We have moved on to Trey Lance.”

Coming up short yet again was the final nail in the coffin for Garoppolo, whose departure has been delayed by a shoulder surgery. It has become increasingly likely that the quarterback is released rather than traded, given the team’s lack of leverage.

Now, it’s time for the 49ers to cultivate the upside they paid for in the form of Lance. San Francisco is currently holding -198 odds to make the playoffs, per FanDuel. It likely won’t be the smoothest road to get there, but with the full weight of the organization behind him, there are no longer any doubts about who gives the 49ers the best chance to win a Super Bowl.
