Kyrie Irving Exercises Player Option

Kevin Durant

Well, well, well. Here we are. After what felt like weeks of posturing and leveraging media leaks, Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is back in the fold. It was exhausting to say the least. Irving called a truce to the war with the Nets front office, opting into his $36.9 million player option on Monday.

In other news, the circus is leaving Brooklyn, for now at least. At least for New York City basketball fans, there is another heavily attended circus in Midtown Manhattan. Regardless, the talented Irving is averaging 23.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 39.3% from deep throughout his career. If only he could just stay on the floor. The endless drama surrounding the unique man that is Irving has seen him play at least 70 games three times during his 11 year career. Will he remain on the court this season in a potential championship season in Brooklyn? Will he remain in Brooklyn past next season? Only time will tell, but you can basically guarantee his next contract’s fate almost certainly rests solely on that issue.
