After a seemingly failed attempt at trading for the Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to get the band back together. At least that what the reports indicate.
According to those reports, Lakers stars LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook connected on a phone conversation on Monday. The idea behind the call was for all three to talk about and reaffirm their commitment to the team and each other.
The Lakers were nothing short of a circus last season and a disappointment from start to finish. Finishing with a 33-49 record, the team failed to make the playoffs after entering the season with championship expectations. It should be interesting to see whether the Lakers have any room to improve with an aging and injury prone core.
Perhaps the greatest obstacle toward improvement from a team perspective is repairing what seems to be a strained relationship with Westbrook, who clearly took a massive step back last season. Don’t get it twisted though. This “solution” and “commitment” is only happening because it appears Irving won’t be walking through the door anytime soon.
