Management Confident Zion Williamson Will Agree To Max Deal

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson could be on the verge of extending his tenure with the team, which sounds insane if you told somebody this just a few months ago.

Williamson recently stated he wants to remain in New Orleans, which could happen if he signs an expected five-year, $182 million max extension.

Just last June, rumors were circulating that Williamson’s family wanted the budding superstar to leave New Orleans and after missing all of this season it certainly seemed like it.

Against all odds, executive VP of basketball operation David Griffin believes a deal will get done, although reports have suggested the Pels may not make the contract fully guaranteed.

Nevertheless, the former Blue Devil has proven to be an exceptional talent since arriving in the league in 2019, averaging 25.7 points, 7.0 boards, and 3.7 assists.

However, injuries have been an issue, with Williamson playing only 85 games throughout his two seasons and recently missing the entire 2021-22 campaign due to a foot injury.

Williamson has the talent to be one of the faces of the NBA, but his lack of conditioning and injury history may give the Pelicans fans something to worry about it. Safe to say though, he’s easily worth the investment.
