Miami Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer (elbow) threw a 30-pitch simulated game in Florida on Saturday morning, and it was his first time facing hitters since May 17. He was sitting in the 94-95 mph range and hit 97 mph on his final pitch. The team’s No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, should be close to facing hitters in a game setting. Before his injury, Meyer had a 4.54 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and 14 walks in 39 2/3 innings over eight starts for Triple-A Jacksonville. The 23-year-old needs to refine his command before he gets to the next level, but with good health, he should make it to Miami’s starting rotation at some point this season. Meyer has a nasty slider with a ton of horizontal break and repeats his fluid delivery well.
