Patty Mills Undecided About Future In Brooklyn

Brooklyn Nets point guard Patty Mills dribbles the ball up the court

The situation in Brooklyn is becoming a concerning thing to say the least. As rumors around star guard Kyrie Irving’s future run rampant along with the status of star forward Kevin Durant, it is now upcoming free-agent guard Patty Mills‘ future that is now in question as well. It’s a sign of recent unraveling within the Nets organization, as there is uncertainty now as to whether Mills will exercise his player option to remain in Brooklyn for another year. The option would pay him $6.2 million for the 2022-23 season.

Although it is unclear where Mills is at in his decision making, it could be that answer is tied directly to Irving’s future with the team. Mills signed with Brooklyn for a chance to chase an NBA championship alongside a loaded Nets roster. Now with everything in doubt and the future cloudy at best, Mills could also head for the exits. Mills wasn’t a major fantasy presence in Brooklyn, but did an admirable job filling in for Irving, who missed a majority of the season due to New York City’s COVID-19 vaccination restrictions. He also awarded prop bettors on plenty of occasions, shooting 37.5% from beyond the arc while averaging 13.1 points per game in his 48 starts this season. The 33-year-old can certainly still play at a high level, but whether or not it will be in Brooklyn remains to be seen.
