Zach Ertz Dealing With Calf Injury

Already without star DeAndre Hopkins, the Arizona Cardinals may have a questionable start to the season.

Tight end Zach Ertz is dealing with a calf injury and has since been held out of practice. While Arizona is not particularly concerned, mentioning that he is “coming along,” the 31-year-old could potentially miss time if it were to linger.

If that’s the case, it’s possible he gets “Wally Pipped” by rookie tight end Trey McBride. Taken in the second round, McBride is the future of the tight end position for the Cardinals and will see looks in 12 personnel formations this season. With a hobbling Ertz in front of him, it’s possible McBride takes advantage of the opportunity and leaves his predecessor in the dust.

Now, that is neither easy or overly likely, especially given Arizona’s lack of concern for the injury. Still, DraftKings is offering +5000 on him to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Other, safer, options include Chris Olave (+750) and Kenny Pickett (+900).
