Saquon Barkley Called His Shot
By Lenn Robbins
Saquon Barkley’s rookie season was one for the ages.
The second player taken in the 2018 NFL Draft, a shockingly high pick for a running back, had 2,028 yards of total offense and scored 15 touchdowns. The Giants had found not just their franchise running back but the face of the franchise.
The second season was pretty good, too. Barkley had almost 1,500 yards in total offense. But then the injuries started to hit like Lawrence Taylor. Barkley missed three games in 2019 and tore his ACL in 2020 after just two games.
Perhaps the only thing worse than not playing was hearing how far Barkley had fallen.
“To be honest, I’m just tired of whatever is written about me, the BS that’s said about me or this team,” Barkley said. “I want to go out there and prove to this organization that the player they drafted is still there, I can still do special things with the ball in my hands, and I can help this team.”
The Giants picked up the fifth-year option on Barkley, giving him the chance this season to silence the critics and show he remains an elite talent. Barkley looked great in training camp and finally appears to be fully healthy. The Giants upgraded their line and added a talented wide receiver in Wan’Dale Robinson.
Barkley has a chance to call BS on the BS.
UPDATE: After a strong 2022, Barkley signed the franchise tag for the 2023 season, giving him another shot at making his Giants stay a permanent one.
