Georgia: Put Your Dreams in Motion.
One of the slogans for Georgia has been apparent in many aspects of the state. However, this has yet to apply to gambling. Georgia is one of the most “anti-gambling states” in the country. They do not allow most forms of gambling, including horse racing, casinos and sports betting.
Atlanta is the biggest city in Georgia with over 500,000 people. It also hosts the three major professional sports teams, the Atlanta Hawks, Braves and Falcons. There are six Division 1 programs in the state as well. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State and Mercer.
As of right now, there isn’t much momentum for The Peach State to go from their anti-gambling mentality to allowing gambling in any form. There was some movement towards legalization in 2022, but that did not pass.
No, gambling is not legal in Georgia. Considered an “anti-gambling state”, the state does not permit any form of gambling within its borders. That includes casinos, horse racing and sports betting. There seems to be a change of attitude amongst the lawmakers. There was a bill introduced in 2022 regarding legalizing sports betting. This bill eventually failed and delayed future launches until 2024 at the earliest. Daily Fantasy Sports is currently allowed in GA.
Since gambling is not legal within the state’s border, residents of Georgia can go to Tennessee and place legal sports bets. There is also one riverboat casino that leaves out of Georgia where passengers can gamble when out of the jurisdiction.
