"The Good Life" is the motto of Nebraska, a Midwestern United States state located in the Great Plains region. Nicknamed the Cornhusker State, Nebraska is known for its rolling farmlands and unique landscape, inspiring the nickname "The Land of Opportunity."
Nebraska is abbreviated as NE, and its capital city is Lincoln. Other major cities in the state include Omaha, Bellevue, Grand Island, and Kearney. The University of Nebraska system's four campuses are located in Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, and Scottsbluff.
Nebraska is home to a variety of attractions for tourists from all around. The Chimney Rock National Historic Site in Bayard offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside, while Carhenge near Alliance pays homage to Stonehenge with its unique arrangement of vintage cars. The state also boasts several nature preserves, like Fort Robinson State Park and Niobrara National Scenic River, that are perfect for camping and hiking.
The Cornhuskers football team from the University of Nebraska has been one of college football's most successful programs since 1970. Other prominent college teams from Nebraska include Creighton University’s basketball team, the Omaha Mavericks baseball team from University of Nebraska-Omaha, and the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s volleyball team which finished as NCAA Division II runner-up in 2015.
At present time, gambling is still illegal in Nebraska, with no prospects on any changes to this law anytime soon. The only legal form of betting allowed in the state is pari-mutuel wagering on horse races at off-track betting locations run by licensed organizations such as fraternal lodges or charitable organizations that hold annual events or festivals where wagering can take place. There are currently no efforts underway to legalize online gambling or sports betting within the state boundaries, either through land-based casinos or online sites hosted within or outside Nebraska borders.
Online gaming and online sports betting are not currently legal in Nebraska; however, there is an active process being done to legalize them. The state’s Gaming Commission is working on a plan to allow for online gaming and sports betting. This could open up new opportunities for Nebraskans to access gaming and sports betting options both in-state and beyond its borders.
Sports betting is not currently legal in Nebraska. However, there has been some activity to legalize it. In 2019 the state legislature introduced a bill that would authorize sports wagering activities at the racetracks of Lincoln Race Course and Fonner Park.
Gambling is legal in Nebraska and is regulated by the Nebraska Department of Revenue. There are 19 casinos located throughout the state, including Horsemen’s Park Simulcasting, Ohiya Casino, and Iron Horse Bar & Casino.
