Utah Rocks!
A funny saying about the state that also is true. Utah is an awesome state with stunning views and activities in every weather season. But for sports gamblers, there isn’t much to do in Utah as gambling is not legal.
Salt Lake City is the biggest with 200,000 people. It’s the host of the only major professional sports team in the state, the Utah Jazz. Seven Division 1 programs call Utah home. Those teams are BYU, Utah, Utah State, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, Southern Utah and Weber State.
The Beehive State is known as one of the strictest states when it comes to gambling. There are no statewide or tribal casinos. Sports betting is not allowed, and neither is horse racing. It doesn’t seem like this will change anytime soon.
No, gambling is not legal in Utah. It’s one of if not the most restrictive states when it comes to gambling. The state legislature prohibits casinos, poker, sports betting, horse race betting and even a state lottery. There is no money wagering that can be done within the state.
Unlike other states who are traditionally anti-gambling, the residents of Utah also don’t have much interest in legalizing gambling of any kind. Roughly 60% of the state is Mormon who oppose gambling based on religious beliefs. Without the presence of tribal casinos, there isn’t much of a history with Utah and gambling. This combination makes it very hard to foresee legal sports betting coming to the Beehive State.
For residents of Utah who do want to bet on sports, the state is surrounded by others offering legal sports betting. Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming are all options for anyone looking to gamble.
