Marcus Mariota The Clear Starter In Camp

Marcus Mariota

The quarterback position is going to look a lot different this year than Atlanta Falcons fans are used to seeing. With long-time starter Matt Ryan traded to Indianapolis, free agent signing Marcus Mariota has the inside track to become the team’s full-time signal caller come Week 1.

Mariota spent the last two years with the Las Vegas Raiders, backing up Derek Carr while trying to rebuild his value, after being replaced by Ryan Tannehill in Tennessee. The former Titan has never been known for his passing ability, but he makes up for it with his legs as a dual threat. There was some speculation as to whether rookie Desmond Ridder could push Mariota in the offseason, but new reports indicate that Mariota is “far ahead” and is only in danger of losing his job as a result of injury.

The former Oregon star could be a fascinating fantasy option, especially due to his rushing ability. Reunited with former Titans offensive coordinator and current head coach of the Falcons Arthur Smith, Mariota has familiarity with the system the team will run, which does bode well for Falcons skill position players as well.
