The best part about odds is that they are just numbers. They are the same no matter what you choose to
bet on. An underdog can be priced at +200 on the moneyline in the NFL and NBA, the same way a
favorite might come in at -200.

Betting 101

This is one of the only sure things in wagering: Playing hunches isn’t the best way to go.

Sure, you might hit a bet or two by listening to your gut. But making an informed decision based on expert advice and in-depth research will prove to be a much better play. Hey, it’s your hard-earned money. Do you want to piss it away on a hunch or do you want to do everything you can to ensure the odds are in your favor?

That’s exactly what BetBasics.com was created to do. We compare odds, highlight the best bets and give you projections for each bet – all with one click. The Betting Cards even track how a player or team has fared against an opponent, how it performed in recent games, it even gives you up to the minute player injury status.

This should be your No.1 Betting 101 thought – knowledge is power. The more you know, the easier it will be to place the bet that has the best chance of hitting. If it sounds like that’s a lot of work, you’re right. So, we do it for you and we do it for free.

If you’ve never placed a real money bet, or you wish to better understand betting before you continue risking your hard-earned cash - Bet Basics has is a one-stop-shop for betting beginners. We explain everything from betting terms like spread, moneyline, parlay, totals, props and reading odds.

But that’s not all – we compare odds and lines from dozens of legal sportsbooks and only showcase the best, so you always maintain high margins on every win. Not sure about American odds? We got your back with our betting calculator. Need an extra advice? Click the ‘Projection’ button, it’s available next to each bet. We’ll also help you pick the right Sportsbook or Casino and improve your betting returns.

Odds Explained

Learning how to bet is like learning how to drive: What does this lever do? What happens when you push that button? What does P, N, R, D, D1, D2, D3 mean? Your hands might be sweating, and your brain might be ready to short circuit. But with a good teacher, you’ll quickly be looking back at that first experience.

Learning how to bet is not very different: What do the odds actually mean? What’s a moneyline? Parlay? Prop? Cover?

Regardless of whatever sport you’re prefer, the terms mean the same thing and the odds work the same way. All you need is the right teacher – BetBasics.com.

Instead of looking at dozens of sportsbooks and casinos, we compared all the odds for every bet you can think of! At Bet Basics you can compare lines, find the best odds and get a boosted bonus to top it.

We offer a free betting odds calculator that immediately shows the odds, the payoff, and the amount you win. Because you should know exactly what’s going on with your money.
With that in mind, we explain how the odds work and the terminology.

For example, many first-time bettors don’t understand the difference between the moneyline and the betting line. The moneyline means you’re picking one team to win, regardless of score. The betting line – say Cowboys -6 over Commanders – means that Dallas is favored to win the game by six points. If you place your wager on the Cowboys, and if they win by seven on more points, you win.

The odds can really be confusing. Let’s say a team is heavily favored to win. This time we’ll go with the Bengals are -190 to beat the Steelers. You place $100 on Cincy. The payoff is $152.63. But remember, you already wagered or staked $100, so all you won was $52.63. However, if you bet $100 on the Steelers at +158 to upset the Bengals, the payout is $258. Take away that $100 initial stake and you walk away with $158 to buy Christmas presents.

We know it takes a little time to understand the betting options. So, here’s the deal: You worry about looking both ways before entering an intersection. We’ll help you understand the world of American, Decimal, Fractional and Implied odds, so you'll know what -200 and +150 odds mean, what moneylines, parlays, spreads and proposition bets mean.

Betting on Games

What the heck are those numbers creeping across the bottom on your Smart TV? Not the team’s records or player stats but the ones that look like this: Warrior -3 over Celtics or Tom Brady O/U 330.5 yards passing?

If you’re not sure, you need BetBasics.com. Unlike other betting sites that expect you to have the expertise to successfully wager on the games, players, and teams in various sports, BetBasics.com will explain how to bet, where to bet and what your wager actually means. Our exclusive Betting Cards - more than 3,000 player and team cards - give you stats, expert tips and even provide the best sportsbook for you to place your bet.

Whether it’s football, basketball, or baseball (hockey, UFC and college sports is right around the corner), the Betting Cards track how a player or team has fared against an opponent, how it performed in recent games, it even provides even more detailed information with one click of the card. You won’t find anything like it.

Consider an NFL weekend. There can have 16 games featuring 32 teams. You might think you know all there is to know about your favorite team but what about the opponent?

The NBA and MLB offer those challenges on a nightly basis. Who’s that second-round draft pick on Warriors taking the league by storm? Draymond Green.

Who’s this rookie tearing up the diamond for the Seattle Mariners? Julio Rodriguez.

There’re simply too many variables and too much information to go toe-to-toe with the sportsbooks without having an “expert” on your computer or smartphone. BetBasics.com tracks it, analyzes it and explains it in a fun, easy and timely fashion.

How to pick the right sportsbook?

If you ever Googled “Betting Sites,” and your eyes glossed over, we get it. There are so many sportsbooks, each seemingly offering the best odds and biggest payoffs. You might as well tape a list of legal sportsbooks to the wall and start throwing darts.

Instead of wasting time going from one sportsbook to another, we do the heavy lifting for you. We scour every legal online casino and sports book, compare their odds and betting lines to determine who’s offering the best service, odds, payoffs, promos, and bonuses.

Most of the leading sites have relationships with the top leagues, which allows them to offer special incentives. From free promo codes, to "no sweat" promotions, enhanced odds and deposit bonuses - we cover and arrange it all for you. This is one of the most advantageous ways to bet. Knowing which sportsbook has the best incentives is as close to free money as you’ll find. BetBasics.com not only finds you the best offers, but our exclusive relationships with the legal sportsbooks allow us to offer additional bonuses and promos. Which means, extra cash for you!

All of this is free and easy to see on our revolutionary Betting Cards. We highlight the most popular bet and the sportsbook that is offering the best options. You can even sign up to track of all of your sportsbook accounts - balance, returns, open bet slips, all done 100% securely, so you don’t have to remember or go through 5 signups each time yo wish to bet.

It’s completely safe. We don’t ask for credit card or bank information. Our mandate is simple: Help you find the best sportsbook in the quickest and easiest way possible. Basically, it’s like having a betting expert in your phone.

Betting Tools and Analytics

There is a great scene in the terrific baseball movie, “Bull Durham,” in which Kevin Costner laments the fine line that determines whether a hitter goes .300 for the season.

“You know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It’s 25 hits. Twenty-five hits in 500 at-bats is 50 points, OK? That means if you get just one extra flare a week, just one, a gork, a ground ball — a ground ball with eyes! — you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week and you’re in Yankee Stadium.”

Pick a sport, any sport, and understanding the analytics, odds, and trends can mean the difference between being in the Wagering Hall of Fame (If You Build it, They Will Wager!) or not.

NFL teams now go for it on fourth down more than ever before. NBA teams have embraced the 3-point shot like it’s a high school sweetheart. MLB teams have analytics departments that rival investment companies.

It’s cool to place a bet based on a gut feel. It’s even better to back up that hunch with information. BetBasics.com puts all the hints, matchups, stats, streaks, trends right at your fingertips with our Basics Betting Cards. We’ll help you understand your bet with and the payoffs. There are even separate tabs dedicated to odds and lines and betting tips. We're connected to dozens of online sportsbooks, the likes of Fan Duel, Sports Illustrated Sportsbook, Draft Kings, Bet MGM, Caesars Sportsbook and more and we compare their lines and odds. You'll be surprised what margins you you can make by comparing odds. Not only did we compare odds, we also sort the best odds, so the very best is always on top. It saves time and it increases your margins. Win-Win! You can also use our parlay odds calculator which on top of making sense of American odds, can help you calculate your next parlay returns.
