Athletes, and for that matter teams, love to play the respect card. It’s a common refrain.
“Nobody outside of this locker room respected us.”
“I never listened to the naysayers, I just care about my teammate’s respect.”
But there’s one player who might have a right to feel he’s not been given his respect.
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has thrown for more than 31,000 yards, has a career QB rating of 92.4 and has tossed 193 touchdowns to 85 interceptions. He’s never been honored as an All-Pro and, while John Gruden was coaching the franchise, seemed to be on the trading block every other week.
“I'm going to be completely honest with you,” Carr said recently. “I'm tired of being disrespected.”
Carr has the best supporting cast he’s ever had. The Raiders traded for WR Devante Adams and signed WR Keelan Cole and are expecting a bounce back season from RB Josh Jacobs.
After making the playoffs last season, the Raiders believe they can challenge for the Super Bowl. If that happens, we could see Carr on a parade float.
