Much like the Jimmy Garoppolo news from earlier this week, some moves just feel inevitable. The San Francisco 49ers releasing Dee Ford on Wednesday was one of them.
The edge rusher has dealt with injuries throughout his 49ers career, including a back injury that had kept him out of offseason practices. In three seasons with San Francisco, Ford saw the field in 18 games and generated 9.5 sacks.
There is still hope that Ford, a 2018 Pro Bowler, can get healthy and contribute to a defense. Still, teams won’t be lining up to give him said opportunity.
Now, the 49ers will rely on Nick Bosa and Drake Jackson to make plays off the edge. DraftKings is currently offering -105 odds on the former surpassing 11.75 sacks.
