The Los Angeles Rams are set to face off against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but they’ll have to do it without their starting running back, Cam Akers. He has been ruled out due to personal reasons according to head coach Sean McVay.
According to McVay, the team is, “working through things,” with Akers. The Rams are currently last in the league in rushing yards per game with 62.4, registering only a total of 312 yards on the ground this season.
They face off against a Panthers team that has allowed the 7th most rushing yards, which should be good news for Darrell Henderson Jr., who should be returning to the starting role on Sunday. The Rams run game has been inefficient at best, scoring three touchdowns on the ground, but expect Henderson to have a big role, creating some serious value on DraftKings.
Most of the sportsbooks have pulled all player props for this game, but DraftKings is still allowing same game parlay wagers (SGP) at the time of this writing. This bet will require some faith in the Rams to not lose against the lowly Panthers, but create the SGP to your liking. Henderson to score a touchdown parlayed with a Rams win is +200, a number that almost certainly won’t be available when props return elsewhere.
It would be hard to imagine seeing Henderson near the +180 number considering he won’t be competing for snaps anymore. McVay will eventually look to fix the running game, so why not this week in a “get-right” spot? The Rams need to keep pace in the division and they’ll need a good running game later in the season.
For fantasy purposes, Carolina is giving up the 7th most points to opposing running backs and is available in nearly 50% of leagues depending on the service you use. He’s a worthy pickup and startable in all formats this week, especially considering bye-week replacements.
