James Washington Could Miss Two Months

James Washington

Even as the calendar officially flipped to August, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a tough spot, despite kickoff of Week 1 being a month away. The latest in Dallas is an injury to receiver James Washington, who has been diagnosed with a broken foot that is expected to sideline him 6-10 weeks.

With Washington likely to land on injured reserve, it begs the question, where will the Cowboys offense come from? After losing receiver Amari Cooper this offseason, the team opted to move forward with less depth at the position. But it gets worse. With Washington now sidelined and Michael Gallup unlikely to be ready in time for Week 1, Dallas is now down to CeeDee Lamb, Noah Brown, and Jalen Tolbert at wide receiver.

This means the Cowboys offense will most likely have to come from somewhere else, as defense will aim to take Lamb out of the game, leaving unproven receivers, running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, plus tight end Dalton Schultz to shoulder the bulk of the load on offense. Even though it is August, it is hard to be optimistic about how the Cowboys are likely to start the year, meaning bettors could be in a good position to fade this reeling team.
