Tyler Johnson Leads Bucs’ Receivers On Saturday

As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ roster depth continues to be tested this offseason, it’s the wide receiver position now that is of great concern. With receiver Mike Evans already having a minor hamstring injury, the team also has to deal with fellow receiver Chris Godwin recovering from an ACL tear and Russell Gage nursing a leg problem as well.

With those being the team’s top three targets, third year receiver Tyler Johnson could find himself some more opportunity alongside Julio Jones. It’s a stacked room for Tampa, but it is still concerning that their depth is being tested this early. Nevertheless, Johnson seized that opportunity in the preseason opener, hauling in six receptions on seven targets for 73 yards.

Reports on him out of training camp have been positive, which Johnson seemed to validate during the game. Quarterback Tom Brady will continue to be away from the team for at least the next week, meaning Johnson won’t be able to build any chemistry with the future Hall of Famer, but he can still impress the coaching staff and carve out a role that way. Johnson isn’t a roster worthy player in fantasy leagues, but can quickly become one if the Buccaneers continue to experience the wrath of the injury bug.
