There are five-tool players in baseball and then there’s Logan Thomas.
Since staring at quarterback at Virginia Tech, Thomas has played quarterback, tight end, running back, kick returner and has made 15 tackles in the NFL.
This was nothing new for Thomas who excelled in track and field in the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the high jump, discus and long jump. That’s what happens when you have a lot of athleticism packed into a 6-foot-6, 250-pound frame.
Thomas threw for more than 9,000 yards and rushed for nearly 1,400 while scoring 76 touchdowns in college. The key moment in his pro career came in 2019 when the Lions signed him and moved Thomas to tight end. He had the size and athleticism to play the position but needed the experience.
Where Thomas lines up for the Washington Commanders in 2022 is anyone’s guess but he seemed to finally find his position in 2020. Logan made 72 catches for 670 yards and six touchdowns. He was off to a solid start last season when he had 12 catches for 117 yards and two scores before suffering a hamstring injury. He tore his ACL later in the season.
He hopes to be back by Week 1 but the more likely return is Weeks 4-6. One thing we know about Thomas – he certainly can acclimate to different scenarios.
