Falling behind their neighboring states and districts, residents of Maryland overwhelmingly supported legalizing sports betting on a general election ballot measure. This started the process for officially legalizing.

Yes, gambling is legal in Maryland. After a general election ballot measure showed residents supported legal sports betting, lawmakers got to work. Governor at the time Larry Hogan signed House Bill 940 into law in May of 2021.
Retail casinos were the first sportsbooks who were able to take bets. They first were launched in December of 2021. There are currently six operational retail locations with dozens more expected to be launched. The long-awaited launch of mobile betting came on November 23rd, 2022. There are currently seven online sportsbooks operating with major expansion encouraged.
