NFL Week 9

NFL Rapid Reaction Week 9: The AFC West has something for everyone

There is something that is rather satisfying about watching AFC West football. There’s something for everyone. What is that exactly? I’ll give you a hint. Week 9 gave us just about all we could ask for.

Chiefs’ concern or just business as usual?

On one hand, it should be a tad concerning that the Chiefs were unable to cruise to victory over a team that was essentially playing without a quarterback. On the other hand, why should we care? We can go on and on about a list of hot takes, concluding that these aren’t the same Chiefs, but maybe we should consider something else. The division is, for the most part, wrapped up. They don’t want injuries to pile up and the regular season has to start becoming boring after a while. Think about it. Regardless of what people might say, winning all the time, especially with how the they do it, has to get boring. Constantly dominating the competition can’t be enjoyable. So the only logical explanation is that you’ll get the occasional clunker. Rather than be alarmed by Patrick Mahomes’ throwing the ball 68 times, just enjoy the ride, because odds are, they’ll flip the switch in January, making us all look like fools.

Misery loves the Raiders

For the miserable people in the world, we bring you the Las Vegas Raiders. Unfortunately for the team, what happens in Vegas, happens everywhere. The Josh McDaniels hire is looking like quite the failure thus far, but perhaps more concerning is whether or not he could end up being fired. It’s not like Mark Davis is known for spending a ton of money and he’s already on the hook for paying Jon Gruden. Whether he could pay two fired coaches at the same time in addition to whomever they hire is unlikely. So while the Raiders manage to either blow a big lead every week or just not bother to show up at all, just remember it’s going to get worse before it gets better. In the end, the Raiders look like most people in Vegas. Broke, filled with regret, overcome with bad decisions, but can always reminisce about the good old days. At least they have that much.

Chargers continue to be comic relief

The Chargers might be in the running for funniest team in the league. You could have takeaways about the game, but instead we’ll focus on what transpired in the final minute. Come on. That was an award winning performance that only a Chargers-Falcons game could provide. A double fumble? Multiple changes of possession on one play? That is something that we really only get in college football. These are professionals. Injuries are obviously a big story with the Chargers, but at least we are here for the laughs. In a world that is increasingly miserable, let’s aim to be more like the hilarious Chargers than the miserable Raiders. At least one of them can put a smile on everyone’s face. Who knows what will happen in next week’s edition of the 2022 Chargers?

Hello there, I’m Nick Brinkerhoff, a New Jersey native with enough sarcasm and attitude to show I’m not from New York. Despite being Jersey born and bred, I’m a diehard New York sports fan (Jets, Nets, Rangers, Mets) who has seen plenty of losing, but my sports betting ability will hopefully continue to balance those scales. I have season tickets to the Jets but believe it to be more character building than bad asset management. Althoug
