Justin Verlander Embraced the City of Brotherly Love
Nobody dreams of coming to Philadelphia. You just end up there.
Former Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander found himself in Philadelphia for the middle of the 2022 World Series. It's safe to say he quickly embraced the spirit the city is known for.
After getting jeered on the team bus, Verlander tastefully gave the bird to a group of Phillies fans. After the mean words continues, his middle finger returned.
Of course, it was caught on camera, but it doesn't seem like many were truly bothered.
"Whole interaction was in jest as the fans around you were just saying hello in their native tongue," Verlander started. "So I responded in kind...I enjoyed the banter."
Verlander would defeat Philadelphia en route to his second World Series championship. He'll have every opportunity to embrace Philly again after signing with the rival New York Mets prior to the 2023 season.
