Legal Betting FAQs
Currently 21 US states allow making sports bets online: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming
Currently only 6 states allow online gambling: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia. Nevada requires you to sign up at a land-based casino first.
You won't be in trouble legally, but there are too many cases of customer winnings being "forgotten" or erased. Offshore operators are not legally bound to pay you your wins or follow any consumer regulations. There are great licensed US sportsbooks, who may offer smaller bonuses or odds, but you will never be at a risk of losing your entire deposit or win.
About

State by State legal gambling review

Following the 2018 supreme court ruling, individual US states have the authority to regulate or ban sports betting.

Bet Basics tracks the legal betting status of all US States and Canadian territories - we review the legal status for online Sports betting and online casinos, per state.

We also cover land-based casinos and sportsbooks and their legal status per state.

Our reviews include relevant legislation and recent legal changes to online gambling rules. We highlight relevant legal sportsbooks and casinos. Only operators with state licenses are showcased on our reviews. we also cover state pro teams from the NBA, MLB and NFL and we cover all relevant players hailing from each state, so you can actually track NBA players that were born in New York, or NFL players from California.
