Leaving Detroit Once Wasn't Enough For Stafford
Everyone knows the Matthew Stafford story. Good quarterback. Bad team. No playoff wins. After pouring his heart and soul into the remains of the Detroit Lions organization, he would go on to be traded to the Los Angeles Rams. Finally surrounded by competency and elite talent, Stafford won his Super Bowl after all.
But did you know that a vacation after the 2021 season facilitated all of it?
Stafford left Michigan for Cabo with his wife, Kelly. There, the football gods pulled some strings, placing Stafford and Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth at the same place and time. Also catching some sun in Cabo? Rams head coach Sean McVay.Ā
Despite his best efforts to not talk ball, football inevitably came up and an instant chemistry arose. Shortly after everyone returned home, Stafford found a new home: Los Angeles.
"I feel like people don't believe it," said Stafford. "But it's just a crazy story, and it's why we're here today. I'm happy it happened. It was a big-time moment for our family."
