Good or bad, they are never indifferent.
There are 32 NFL franchises and all can claim to have the most passionate fans but no team’s level of fanaticism matches that of the Philadelphia Phaithful.
This is particularly true of Eagles fans. Their unbridled passion and pride during the road to winning Super Bowl LV could make the most hardened fan from South Philly smile. Yes, you had a friend in Pennsylvania that season.
But their volatile rage when the Eagles lose – some fans have been known to punch police horses – would make the most seasoned sociologist cringe. City of Brotherly Love? Not.
This makes the 2022 season a fascinating one. The Eagles defied expectations last season by making the playoffs. Which means many of the city’s Rocky-proud fans are entertaining champion thoughts of a trip to the NFC Championship Game. Others have been down this road far too many times to jump on the Eagle’s bandwagon.
The team’s faithful are as divided as those that debate where to get the best cheesesteak in town. Pat’s vs Geno’s; Chubby’s vs Dalessandro's. I’ve never gone wrong at John’s Roast Pork and Angelo’s Pizzeria, but I probably just started a brawl.
Speaking of brawls, the Eagles like to play smash mouth football, running it down the opposing team’s throats until they cry, “Ben Franklin.” Or until Eagles’ fans lose their voice cheering or booing their team or break a hand foolishly punching a police horse.
