Pete Alonso is Party Rockin'
Baseball is largely known as the most boring of the major American sports. While that idea represents the faultiness of human opinion, there's some truth to it. There simply aren't many opportunities for outsiders to be introduced to the game in a fun, exciting way. In a game so technical, personality is often cast aside.
The Home Run Derby is one of baseball's few opportunities to showcase the talent and entertainment value of the athletes, more so than the sport itself. This event was made for Pete Alonso.
The first baseman is one of MLB's more joyful characters, chatting it up with base runners, ripping his jersey after walk offs, and adding an "F" in between the first two letters of "LGM" chants. Nicknamed the Polar Bear for his size and strength, it's no surprise he makes his mark when all he has to do is hit absolute taters.
Alonso has won two Home Run Derby championships and seems like a lock to enter the contest in future years. Here, he's seen simply rocking out to music, dancing during his timeouts, and trading focus for the fun of simply hanging out.
It's hard to blame him. His strategies work and he has more fun than the rest of us while doing so.
