That Night In Boston
There's no questioning Devin Booker's ascension to the status of a household name. He's dated the celebrities, played in the finals, and drawn as many trade rumors as a young player on a LeBron James-led team.
Before his rise, though, he was a talented scorer without an All-Star to his name. He headlined a dreadful Phoenix Suns roster and, from the outside, seemingly counted the days until he could hit free agency. But on March 24, 2017, Boston became the birthplace of an NBA supernova.
At just 20 years old, Booker found himself amidst the perfect storm brewing that night. The Celtics were up big, his teammates had gone cold, and Booker was playing the game of his life.
Sure, the game ended in a double-digit loss, and it took some shrewd coaching decisions to get there. But Booker dropped 70 points on the TD Garden floor. The youngest ever to accomplish the feat, and one of only six men to hold the honor.
The historic night made certain that Booker got the respect he deserved around both the town and the league, even if his true success didn't come until years later.
