Record/Accomplishments
There are some players – you know them from the neighborhood courts – who everyone loves or hates. There’s no middle ground.
Which is just fine with Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young. He’d prefer that every opposing team and their fans hate him – with a passion. Young, the pesky, demonstrative 6-foot-1 point guard (in shoes) not only loves to be hated – it fuels his competitive enjoy – but he does everything he can to create that environment.
Challenge opposing fans? Check. Get under the skin of opponents? Check. Takes pride in his mop of hair that resembles wet a black Lab shaking off water? Check.
But no one can argue with his success, even if you loathe his style. Young burst onto the seen in 2018 by 2021 led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the Milwaukee Bucks. After averaging 19 points and eight assists in his rookie season Young has not averaged less than 25 points and nine assists per season.
Imagine if Young ever leads the Hawks to an NBA title. Suddenly, there might be more lovers than haters. Either way, Young wins.
