The Punch Heard Around the World
The Golden State Warriors' morale should have been high after winning a fourth title in a decade and cementing themselves as one of the most feared dynasties basketball had ever seen. Apparently, that wasn't the case.
During a preseason practice right before the 2022 season, the reigning champs saw a scuffle break out at practice. Its pinnacle? A Draymond Green punch that shook the basketball world. Green attacked Poole, and not in your normal "oh, brothers fight" kind of way. Green is Golden State's enforcer, supposed to deal out punishment and protect the smaller stars the Warriors have to offer. Green turned against his own.
The punch Poole sustained made him the talk of the NBA town after a video of the altercation was leaked. Green would be fined and temporarily away from the team, but questions about their chemistry would remain.
In the meantime, Poole has signed a four-year, $140 million extension to stay in the Bay, hinting that the Warriors have already picked sides if things go sideways again.
